Google Chrome OS First Impressions Leave Us Lacking Belief

google_logo_smSo, if you haven’t heard about Google Chrome OS then you are probably living under a rock.

The new OS from Google is being touted as a replacement for Windows and Apple OSx and with all the hype you may think that the product will at least offer something new but seems like not….

Chrome OS is based on a stripped down Linux Kernel that has had a Windows Manager and Chrome Browser installed.

Google is saying they are rebuilding part of the way files are stored to improve security and eliminate the possibility of virus infections. Well you know Linux is already fairly secure if you don’t start opening holes and as for viruses … yes you can find a few but most hackers are going after windows computers because they hold the largest proportion of installed systems.

Here is where we are not totally convinced this project is worth the time and effort.

First Google has more on the line then just providing a quality system. If they fail they will invigorate windows and FreeBsd … I mean Apple OSx users COUGH …

It really is a losing proposition… but the project is nothing more then stripped down linux?

Haven’t we had enough forks of linux in the past 15 years and none of them has come up with a grandma proof install and interface?

We are sure that there is a hardware developer out there that will put this os on a craptop / netbook but who will want to use it for a day to day system when all of your aps are remote and not a heck of a lot more then basic office and email are available.

If they really want to design an os it should be one that allows for the replacement of all of the office desktops … providing connectivity to a local secure server not an internet based one…  one where you can run a 19″ lcd, keyboard and mouse on about 25 watts of electricity and replace all the systems in offices around the world….

It would be pretty easy to do something like that if you had the balls… Simply use Laptop parts.

But really

With all due respect I would never suggest to a client that they store customer data remotely or use remote aps over the internet if they want to be secure…

Today we hear about international cyber attacks that could be as dangerious as a conventional war Remember if something drastic happens it only takes 6 days until there is no food in our supermarkets. Then you have to eat your pets…

Not to mention the fact billions of dollars are lost by businesses when their employees surf the net all day…

This is really the wrong direction for many reasons but in reality this OS will die a hard death just like BE OS did …

Maybe someone at Google just wanted to Piss Off Microsoft after they introduced Bing.. but for crying out loud a Stripped down Linux that boots into a Browser? HAHAHAH I can see them laughing their asses off on that one…

Love to all of you but FRICKEN PLEASE…
